Madsonline Lucille AC AdapterLucille is a new PowerBook AC adapter by Madsonline introduced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference last week in San Francisco. The new adapter supplies 65 watts of power so it will charge the PowerBook 15 and 17-inch but it also adds two really nice features: a FireWire and USB port on the side allowing you to carry less power bricks when traveling.
Lucille is three adapters in one – 24 Vdc for your PowerBook, regulated 12 Vdc Firewire and 5 Vdc USB. This one adapter can be used to charge your computer, USB hub or cell phone and iPod.
The Lucille adapter uses a modified switching flyback design with a large capacitor. The capacitor stores energy for the momentary high demands like start up and when external devices are plugged into it.
Lucille meets Energy Star requirements by being very energy efficient. All the adapters in your power strip are drawing power whether or not they are in use. Power management is becoming extremely important as it is more expensive to produce and purchase energy.
The Lucille 65 watt AC adapter draws only 0.4 watts of power in a no load state according to Madsonline. In comparison, the Apple adapter draws 0.9 Watts when not in use. Lucille also runs cool (59 degrees F or 15 degrees C under full load.)
Lucille is available for pre-order for US$78 and will begin shipping on June 25.
