During the WWDC keynote, Apple dove hard into its plans for its new Apple Intelligence features for iOS 18, complete with its integration with ChatGPT. Through this method, Apple will allow users to sign into their OpenAI account and use ChatGPT models as needed.
Once connected, users can select ChatGPT as their model to use inside Siri and as part of the new intelligent writing tools and other features across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and the macOS Sequoia operating system.
The Siri/ChatGPT integration allows for extended functionality to the free Apple Intelligence functions built into the operating system. In given cases, if Siri can’t answer your question, it could hand the task off to ChatGPT. Users can take advantage of the usual free quotas for ChatGPT usage, or connect their paid subscriptions to use their ChatGPT Plus benefits instead.
Apple has indicated that it is working on partnerships with OpenAI as well as other AI model makers to offer more options in the future, and it’s possible that other AIs, such as Google’s Gemini, as well as other models, will be offered for use in the future.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
