If you’re traveling and eager to use Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone feature for shopping, it just expanded to five new countries across Europe.
As mentioned before, Tap to Pay on iPhone is a feature where businesses can use an iPhone as a contactless terminal to accept payments. The customer simply holds their contactless card, or iPhone or Watch, near the merchant’s iPhone to complete the payment using NFC chip inside the iPhone.
The feature is supported by any iPhone model, beginning with the iPhone XS or later. Similar to Apple Pay, transactions are private and processed using the Secure Element enclave with the iPhone’s A-series chip.
The new supported countries include Austria, Czech Republic, Ireland, Romania, and Sweden, with new payment partners including Adyen, SumUp, and Viva.
Apple offered the following comments regarding the expansion:
Starting today, Adyen, SumUp, and Viva.com are the first payment platforms to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone across all five countries. Stripe is available in Austria, Czech Republic, Ireland, and Sweden; Global Payments with Erste Bank is available in Austria, Czech Republic, and Romania; Nexi is available in Austria and Sweden; Revolut is available in Austria and Ireland; myPOS and PAYONE are available in Austria; Square is available in Ireland; and Zettle by PayPal is available in Sweden. hobex in Austria, BOI Payment Acceptance\Global Payments in Ireland, and Surfboard Payments in Sweden will enable Tap to Pay on iPhone for their customers in the coming weeks.
