Never doubt a nifty firmware update.
Per TmoNews, a software update released this past Friday will give iPhone 5 users on T-Mobile access to the carrier’s LTE network, in addition to adding a number of other features like Visual Voicemail
T-Mobile on Friday updated its support forums to detail the new features the carrier update will bring. All eligible iPhones using a T-Mobile SIM card will now have access to Visual Voicemail, the Commercial Mobile Alert System, and LTE connectivity on T-Mobile’s AWS spectrum for iPhone 5 users.
The update also brings HD Voice to T-Mobile iPhone 5 users, and it contains device/network optimizations that will improve battery life.
The update is restricted to iPhones running iOS 6.1.x or higher. Rumors of the update leaked earlier this month, and it has rolled out as predicted.
T-Mobile’s network currently hosts roughly two million iPhone customers using unlocked devices, adding about 100,000 more per month. The carrier will begin officially carrying Apple’s smartphone on April 12, with a 16GB iPhone 5 available for US$99. Pre-orders for the device began on Friday.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.

got my update everything is working fine even vvoicemail im on 6.1.2 with jailbreak
Got my T-mobile carrier updated on my Apple unlocked & Evasi0n jailbroken iPhone 4 running 6.1.2. Went to Settings>General>About & got a dialog asking me to install the update. I did did have to call T-mobile to make certain Visual Voicemail was active on my account. It wasn’t. I was instructed to reboot my phone & did. vVoicemail interface on the iPhone is there, now may need to wait 2-4 hours for T-mobile servers to start pumping my voicemail to vVoicemail.
After 4 hours no vVoicemail. Called T-mo tech support. They are now saying that they can’t do vVoicemail on anything lower than iOS 6.1.3. The original documentation posted on tMo News stated that any iPhone 4 4S or 5 using iOS 6.1 or higher would be able to use vVoicemail. According to tech support that has changed to a minimum requirement of 6.1.3. But I haven’t been able to find that online anywhere yet.
I won’t be upgrading to 6.1.3 because I don’t want to lose my untethered jailbreak. Seems I will stay with YouMail for vVoicemail.
Funny thing is, I have been able to get 3G on my Apple unlocked iPhone 4 even before I got the latest carrier update, once I enabled 3G and Data Roaming in General>Settings>Cellular. But now with the carrier update, it seems I’m getting 3G in more places too … could be my imagination. I think that’s due to tMo being able to use some of AT&T’s network because of the failed merger.
I got the update. You need to connect to iTunes. And a window will pop up stating their is an update.
ive just updated, but still not getting 3g or 4g on my iphone 4s
how did you updated, mine runs on 6.1.3
i got it but didnt do anything just got the opotion for lte
nothing…
Has anyone actually seen this software update?
not me
I’ve seen it. Go to the settings- general – about -> if you see it runs on carrier T-mobile 14.1, then it is updated. It takes awhile for the 4G to appear, and it actually does not appear as often as the 3G sign I saw before even though I’m in the same area. not sure why though.
