Apple Apple Silicon Desktop Mac iMac Intel News Processors retail Rumor WWDC

Shipping estimates for 27-inch iMac slip into September, hinting at new hardware en route

If you’re eager to snag Apple’s current 27-inch 5K iMac with a mid to high-end stock configuration, you might have to wait a little while longer.

Following rumors of a forthcoming update, Apple’s 27-inch iMac is seeing tight supply numbers as well as extended shipping estimates to the point where new buyers can now expect to wait nearly two months to receive their machines.

Recent rumors of an imminent iMac update have gone back to March, and both reliable leaker CoinX and Bloomberg hinted at a “substantial” iMac refresh that would be coming later this year.

At this year’s WWDC, occasional leaker Sonny Dickson hinted at a redesigned iMac with “iPad Pro design language” that was rumored to launch at the conference, but failed to materialize.

This also comes in the wake of noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stating that a redesigned 24-inch iMac being one of the first machines to transition to Apple Silicon processors with the potential of being released in 2020.

Kuo also said that the current Intel-based ‌iMac‌ will get one more update in the third quarter of this year, which would be between now and the end of September. Finally a recent Geekbench benchmark has leaked for an apparent unreleased ‌iMac‌ equipped with unreleased Intel Comet Lake-S and AMD graphics processors.

In short, there could be some interesting stuff coming down the iMac pipe, and it might be worth waiting for if you don’t need a new iMac this very second.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
