Rumor: Jason Sudeikis’ character may take a less central role in season 4 of ‘Ted Lasso’

Per yesterday’s article, it looks like Ted Lasso will return for season 4 on Apple TV+, albeit with Jason Sudeikis’ central Ted Lasso character taking less of a role this time around.

On the Monday edition of Matt Belloni’s podcast, The Town, Belloni shared several interesting tidbits and expectations for the new season of Ted Lasso.

For starters, he added further support to the reality of season four truly being in the works.

Belloni mentions that Phil Dunster, who played Jamie Tartt, may not be back due to scheduling conflicts. However, there’s always a chance of guest appearances.

During the podcast, Belloni expressed the idea that Sudeikis’ Lasso character might not be as central a character to the show as viewers might expect in the fourth season:

Per Belloni:

“My prediction here is that this is going to be a very different Ted Lasso, and I don’t believe Sudeikis is going to be on it very much. Sources have indicated to me that this was a reluctant green light that he has given. He had a vision for the show. It was three seasons. They executed that vision…He is in a place where the story has wrapped up, and to bring him back into the fold would take a little bit of a leap that I don’t think he wants to take.”

This could hook into Belloni having inside information as to what to expect. At the same time, his sources haven’t directly confirmed that we’ll see less of Lasso, so he can’t come right out and say that.

Belloni later followed up with the following comment when asked as to whether the Lasso character would return and in what capacity:

“No. No, I don’t believe so. It will happen. There will be many, many returning cast members. But Sudeikis will be minimized on the show.”

This may or may not come to fruition, but it’s still a great show with a great ensemble cast, and the writer’s room hasn’t even been assembled, so a lot could change in a very short amount of time.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
