Apple Apple Silicon Developer Hardware iMac iPhone Processors retail Rumor

Rumor: First Apple Silicon-based desktop to be an iMac with an A14T processor, will hit the shelves in early 2021

The very first desktop with an Apple Silicon Processor is rumored to be entering mass production and en route to a store near you.

According to supply chain sources, Apple’s new iMac will feature an “A14T” processor as well as its own GPU. Both processors are said to be based on a 5 nanometer fabrication process. The desktop is said to be scheduled for a 2021 release, with Apple already designing the next “A15” series processor.

Apple’s research and development process, codenamed “Mt Jade,” is developing the new processors. The Apple-designed GPU is known internally as “Lifuka” — presumably named after the island in the Kingdom of Tonga.

“Lifuka,”, the “A14T,” and the “A15” processors are believed to all be built using TSMC’s 5 nanometer process. TSMC has previously been reported to be basing Apple’s “A16” chips on a 3nm process, with this processor having been expected to be in the iPhone and iPad in 2022.

It’s also been rumored that Apple’s 2021 “iPhone 13” will use an “A15 Bionic” processor, which will be based on an enhanced version of the 5nm process that TSMC will launch in early 2021.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
