Moving beyond the McLaren rumor, Apple is also said to be talking to Lit Motors, a small company that participated in the Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt SF back in 2012, a contest they finished second in.
The San Francisco-based startup is developing a new kind of electric vehicle vehicle that seems something like a two-wheeled motorcycle that can’t tip over thanks to built-in stabilization technologies.
Lit is said to have only raised $2.2 million in total in venture capital and it’s unclear if the company still has money today to survive as an independent entity or if it has been looking for an acquirer.
Apple has been working on a car project for a few years now. While it’s still a secretive project, there are plenty of rumors going around. In particular, the company is fighting with many other car and tech companies for talent and Apple is said to have hired engineers from Lit.
It’s not known as to what this could lead to, but Lit seems to have some pretty cool stuff and might be a key asset in terms of Apple’s future automotive projects and technology.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
