The professional-grade display and the 17-inch notebook you’ve always wanted could be less than two years away.
A new research note penned by Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple’s long-awaited professional-grade display will arrive in the next few months, and the rumored 17-inch MacBook Pro with larger display won’t arrive until the first half of 2021 —and both will incorporate micro LED backlighting.
While Kuo didn’t offer specs on the display in the note, he did write that the display will have some form of wide color gamut, and high contrast.
Kuo also stated that the updated MacBook Pro could feature mini LED backlighting,
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously suspected that the MacBook pro would arrive at some point in 2019. Kuo dropped the tidbit in a research note on February 17 that ranged across the company’s many product lines with specific predictions. No further details on the larger MacBook Pro were offered in Monday’s note.
It’s thought that the micro LED MacBook Pro could offer a screen measuring between 16 and 16.5 inches diagonally, suggesting that a 17-inch screen might be possible. If so, this would be Apple’s first 17-inch screen on its notebooks since the 2012 17-inch MacBook Pro. Currently, the largest MacBook Pro on offer features a 15-inch Retina display packing a resolution of 2,880-by-1,800 pixels.
In the same research report from February, Kuo also noted a potential “easy-to-upgrade” Mac Pro, a 6K Apple display, three new iPads, and three new iPhones.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
