Once again, the rumor mill has it that Apple is ditching the 5-watt USB power adapter for an 18-watt USB-C power adapter.
The rumor comes from Chinese suppliers, who’ve stated that all three new iPhone models are said to include the same 18-watt USB-C adapter as does the new iPad Pro, but that doesn’t mean the iPhones will have USB-C ports. Instead, they’ll arrive with USB-C Lightning cables in place of the current USB-A Lightning cables.
Whether this is plausible or not remains up in the air, as iPhones have been capable of charging much more quickly than the 5-watt in-box power adapter will allow.
Unfortunately, this rumor has gone into the wild before, and a new power adapter that everyone was excited about wound up being packaged with the new iPad Pro.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
