Apple’s long-delayed AirPower charging mat is definitely still in play in the rumor mill, with Chinese-language web site stating that Chongdiantou the 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.5-inch iPhones released this fall should offer a wireless charging feature.
The rumor also states that the AirPower mat should ship around fall and be available for $150.
Apple engineers are still in the process of “debugging” the mat, per supply chain sources.
Earlier reports cited “technical hurdles” and Apple is though to be using a more advanced coil system than most Qi-compatible wireless chargers, likely to handle the AirPower’s ability to charge several different kinds of devices regardless of which order they’re in on the mat.
The AirPower accessory, when first revealed in 2017, was said to be able to charge iPhones, Apple Watches, and a rumored next-gen AirPods case. The mat will be able to handle up to three devices simultaneously.
This, in turn, could be a more convenient means of charging multiple devices without having to locate multiple Lightning cables to charge each night, which would be especially handy to travelers.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
