Rumor: 2018 model OLED iPhones could feature Apple Pencil support

It’s thought that the two OLED iPhone models due for release this year could support the Apple Pencil.

Taiwanese web site Economic Daily News suggests that the move is one of the steps Apple is taking to drive adoption of this year’s flagship iPhones. Neither report indicates that the lower-cost LCD model will support the Pencil, making this a key differentiator for the more expensive models.

The report states that Taiwanese stylus chip supplier could be the winner and thus provide the chips for the units. Elan supplies stylus chips to Wacom.

Samsung has long offered a stylus with its Note products. This year’s S Pen on the Galaxy Note 9
brings a Bluetooth button for controlling presentations and snapping selfies.

Support for the Apple Pencil on next-gen iPhones has been rumored for a while, with Apple CEO apparently letting it slip that he had used the Apple Pencil with an iPhone.

An additional rumor also suggested that Apple would offer a 512GB storage tier for the OLED models.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
