In a recently published note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the 2019 model iPhone lineup could feature two-way wireless charging.
In the note, quo mentioned wireless charging as well as suppliers Lunshare, and Sunway, which are thought to be providing Qi charging components for the handsets.
STMicro is said to be on tap for the controlling circuitry, with a companion chip intended to boost charging efficiency provided by TI.
The batteries are said to grow by as much as 25 percent in the iPhone XS-sized model, with a similar power increase but lower volumetric increase of up to 15 percent for the iPhone XR. The extra volume is provided mostly by a new OLED screen laminate, with fewer needed layers than the existing models.
It’s thought that the next-gen iPhone XR’s battery will stay about the same size, growing by between zero percent and five percent.
A previously-published note had Kuo predicting that the 2019 iPhone would be able to wirelessly charge other devices. Other predicted new features included an ultra-wide band for indoor position location, and a triple-lens camera.
The analyst maintains that all 2019 iPhone models will retain a Lightning connector rather than adopt USB-C, as the iPad Pro range has. Also expected to BE retained are Apple’s TrueDepth camera and an associated display notch.
It was also noted that the new TrueDepth camera could see an updated high-power flood illuminator to improve Face ID recognition. Kuo also stated that the 6.1-inch LCD model might be upgraded from 3GB of RAM to 4GB of RAM.
Kuo’s note didn’t state as to whether the new iPhone could be receiving a laser for rear-facing depth mapping, which could aid in both standard photography as well as augmented reality, even if its effective range may be only 15 feet.
Apple will most likely announce 2019 iPhones at a September press event, and ship them shortly after.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
