Apple’s 10th-generation iPad is apparently in production, complete with “major” design changes.
Per DigiTimes, the entry-level iPad is purported to be gaining a faster A14 Bionic chip as well as 5G support for cellular models. Other devices with the A14 chip include the fourth-generation iPad Air and all four iPhone 12 models.
Apple is said to be planning a launch of the new iPad in September, although sources have expressed concern as to temporary power restrictions imposed by the Chinese government on factories in China’s southwestern Sichuan province. Amid an ongoing, intense heatwave, power has been cut to industrial users in 19 cities throughout the province until August 20 in order to prioritize residential power supply, and all industrial power users have been ordered to suspend all production during this period, the report claims.
iPads are currently mainly produced in the Sichuan province by manufacturers Foxconn and Compal, and a six-day shutdown due to power cuts is thought to not pose a threat to overall productivity efficiency for the month of August. Should the power restrictions be extended, a recent report has stated that mass production of products could be affected.
