If you’re looking for registry-based information that new Apple Watch models are en route, you’re going to like this.
Apple last week filed a listing for a 2023 watchOS subsystem in the Bluetooth product database. Albeit not surprising, the listing suggests that Apple is gearing up to launch new Apple Watch models in September, as it does every year.
While the listing doesn’t offer any specific details, the current Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra support Bluetooth 5.3, and the upcoming units can be expected to support the same protocol as well.
Per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this year’s Apple Watch models will include the Seris 9 units as well as a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra. Gurman has stated that he expects both models to be equipped with an S9 chip for faster performance, and new color options are also rumored, including pink for the Series 9 and a darker titanium finish for the next Ultra.
He has also stated that a third-generation Apple Watch SE is not expected until the fall of 2024.
It’s rumored that this year’s Apple Watches will offer minor upgrades compared to the current-generation models. Larger changes are rumored for 2024 or 2025, and Apple is thought to be planning to launch a so-called “Apple Watch X” with a thinner design, and potentially a new magnetic band attachment system.
It’s also rumored that Apple may unveil the Series 9 and the second-generation Ultra alongside the iPhone 15 series during an event that is currently expected to be held on Tuesday, September 12. Apple has yet to announce the event formally.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
