Sometimes the game you love and the older iPhone you love just aren’t going to get along.
Pokémon GO’s official Twitter profile announced today that the game is dropping support for devices running Android 5, iOS 10, and iOS 11. The update is slated to arrive in October.
For Apple users, any iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad with a 64-bit processor will have to update to iOS 12 or later to run Pokémon GO after the October update. Developers have also noted that the app will be unable to run on an iPhone 5s or iPhone 6 model, even with iOS 12 installed.
It’s common for developers to drop support for older iOS versions, especially given iOS’ fast adoption rates in terms of system updates. There’s also the fact that Pokémon GO is an AR-based game, which demands more performance than other regular games.
It’s unknown as to whether users with the above mentioned devices will be able to play immediately following the October release. For owners of iPhone 6s or later handsets running iOS 10 or iOS 11, you’ll have to update your device in order to keep playing.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
