Tech and repair guru Louis Rossman has pointed out the rise of several third-party/grey market services that specialize in reselling iCloud-unlocked iPhones to customers. This, in turn, has led to complaints of the secondhand market being flooded, which then creates its own set of problems.
There’s a lot to it, including technical approaches, and a possible lack of action on Apple’s part, especially as Apple has launched a recent marketing campaign centered around the privacy and security of its devices.
