Reuters reports today that Palm will buy Handspring,an odd twist given that Handspring began when Palm’s co-founders left to start the new company.With the elimination of smaller rival Handspring, Sony is the only remaining major licensee for PDAs. For another strange twist, Palm will simultaneously spinoff its PalmSource unit, which is responsible for the operating system. It’s not entirely clear what Palm’s strategy is here or how it will impact the PDA platform.
