Apple’s next generation PowerBook was originally presumed to be named after Pismo Beach, CA:
a seaside community located on the Pacific Ocean, is famous for having one of California’s longest and widest stretches of beach. The area provides visitors a host of recreational activities like kayaking, surfing, fishing,horseback riding and ATV riding right at the beach.
PowerPage linguist Will points out that “Pismo” is also Russian for “letter” (as in correspondence, not letter of the alphabet). We’re not sure what to deduce from that, but it could be a reference to 102’s weight, which is targeted to be almost a full pound less than Lombard or roughly five pounds.
