Projects are apparently still up in the air over at Apple, especially where launch dates are concerned, the company’s much-anticipated iPhone skewing the mix as the firm tries to get the device out in time for its June launch.
Another concern seems to be providing a noticeable degree of differentiation between the iPhone and a next generation iPod video player, the two devices sharing similar price points based on past history and current expectations.
New technologies also look to be another factor in the development timeline for a next-generation iPod video. Recently, Apple has begun looking to shift its portable devices to NAND-Flash memory, the company pulling away from 1.8″ internal hard drives and towards solid-state memory components. Such a move has been speculated to allow Apple to bring a 32 gigabyte Flash-based player to the market that could make way for significant improvements in battery performance and allow for a new range of slimmer designs.
