Microsoft Word 12.3.2 fails to quit properly on Mac OS 10.7.2. Tried on two separate Macs. Same problem. MS Error Reporting offers to restart Word every time Word quits. A symptom is that when re-launching of Word it always opens the last open doc even if that doc had been saved and closed before trying to quit Word. The 12.3.2. version worked fine with Mac OS 10.6.8. Anybody else experienced this?
Update failed due to not being able to load onto my hard disk. I bought a MAC to get away from crappy Microsoft software and still they haunt me!
Tried the fix below but could not find the correct files so I guess I will have to wait until Bill gets a patch that will work properly.
An interesting anecdote. On the popup box that tells of the update failure it directs you to a Microsoft help page for more information. Type in the URL and it takes you to the Office 2011 trial page – dont you just love Microsoft!
The 12.3.2 updater package contains an application (QuitApps) that is not PPC compatible. You can work around it if you know what you are doing, but this is really hard to excuse.
No surprise, really. I’m willing to give the workaround a try. Anything to improve application security.
– Mount Updater disk image
– Copy Updater application from disk image to Desktop
– Show Package Contents (control-click on Updater application)
– In Contents->Packages locate package
Office2008_all_quit_12.3.2.combo.pkg
– Show Package Contents (control-click on package)
– Navigate to Contents->Resources
there you will find the errant app (QuitApps) — you can confirm by clicking on the icon and getting the same message you get when running the installer
– In the same location, find the script ‘preflight’
– open ‘preflight’ with text editor
– insert the following on line 2
exit 0
– Save file ‘preflight’
– close Finder windows
– Quit all applications
– Click on the modified Updater package to run the installer
Found the ‘preflight’ script, but couldn’t save after changing (was read-only, wouldn’t overwrite).
Saved As to Desktop, tried dragging into Resources (couldn’t be modified). Unlocked the Resources folder but same result.
This works.
Thanks Dan D.
Have been unable to complete this with either the AutoUpdater or downloading the dmg file. Just getting the error installing message. Suggestions?
