The entirely transparent notebook that’s been promised to you by various science fiction movies and TV shows for decades is just about here.
Over at MWC 2024, the Lenovo ThinkPad Transparent Display Laptop surfaced as a proof of concept. The unit features the world’s first 17.3-inch Micro LED transparent display, or the first notebook with a transparent display of any size. The hardware, which adapts to certain layers of transparency as needed, allows for certain application windows and their contents to be seen while leaving certain parts of the screen “opaque” when it’s displaying an object, leaving the rest of the screen completely transparent.
The notebook also uses AI-generated content to display dynamic images or overlay information depending on the physical objects behind the transparent screen.
Other new features include doing away with a conventional physical keyboard and instead using a capacitive glass surface for typing. The surface also allows for this to be used as a drawing pad with an active stylus.
It’s unknown as to whether Apple has a similar notebook in development or what its timeline for release might be.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
