My 60GB iPod (video) arrived this morning. I am probably one of the first people to get it since they shipped yesterday. The packaging is disappointing, but the iPod is incredible.
In addition to unbundling the FireWire cable, dock and power adapter, the new iPod packaging is getting some criticism too. If that wasn’t bad enough, the included case is a joke. From a caption:
The included “case” is the shitty white sleeve on the upper-right. All other accessories are in a shitty envelope. iPod, of course, is beautiful.

In these days of environmental awareness, how much weight can you really put on the packaging? Apple over-packages in my view. Maybe these envelopes are a move to get more realistic.
I just got my black 30GB. I was initially disappointed with the case as well. However, once I started using it, I am impressed enough to use it until I get a real case. Reasoning? The case’s fabric is actually thin enough so that you can operate the touch wheel through it (and of course the click buttons).
Well Apparently I am an idiot becauase I thought the packaging was kind of cool and reminiscent of a CD/DVD case which I find to be much more complicated to open with those anti-theft stickers.
Since I had no intention of keeping those packages I had no problems throwing them away after opening it up.
I do agree that the “bag” included for the ipod is cheap and serves no useful purpose whatsoever. One of the pains of being an early adopter is the painful wait to get a case that fits. I might have to pick up a cheap case since this “Bag” makes it impossible to easily use the ipod easily.
