It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but there’s evidence that points to Apple’s 2020 model iPad Pro featuring the very spiffy U1 chip.
According to iPadOS code references, the new tablet features the U1 chip, which was also found in the iPhone 11. The U1 chip enables ultra-wideband radio spectrum to provide precise spatial awareness. UWB can be used to locate devices indoors and pinpoint locations with a higher degree of accuracy than GPS or Bluetooth.
Applications for the U1 chip can include indoor mapping, device location with Find My, AirTags, sharing content with AirDrop, directionally-aware suggestions, and more.
It also presents a huge boost for Augmented Reality, which the new iPad Pro is being marketed around.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
