A new backup feature just emerged in iOS 16 beta 2 for developers and it could be pretty nifty.
Apple has confirmed through the latest beta version of iOS that users will finally be able to backup their devices to iCloud over LTE and 5G networks.
The update enables iCloud backup over a cellular network for all users. Previously, iCloud backup was only available over Wi-Fi and supported 5G networks – but this required your carrier to give you this option.
Per Apple’s release notes:
Backup
New Features in iOS & iPadOS 16 beta 2: Customers using iOS 16 can now back up their device over an LTE cellular connection, as well as a 5G or Wifi connection. (95276719)
Other new features that have surfaced in the iOS 16 betas include a redesigned lock screen with widgets, expanded Focus Mode, iMessage improvements, passkeys, and more.
iOS 16 beta 2 is currently only available to developers, although Apple has stated that the first public beta will be released in July, while the official release is expected this fall. Testers should still expect performance and stability issues when running the iOS 16 beta on primary devices for the time being.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
