Once again, a beta seems to have hinted at something pretty interesting.
A feature located in the latest beta release of iOS 13.4 hints at a possible next-gen iPhone without a Lightning port.
Over the past six months, the rumor mill has focused on the idea of an iPhone without a Lightning port. The other end of these rumors have focused on iPhones with a USB-C port.
Apple is also rumored to be working on a new feature that could bring data recovery over the Internet to the iPhone. This would allow users to wirelessly restore iOS to their device, as opposed to plugging it into a Mac or PC. The “OS Recovery” would work in the same way as Internet Recovery on macOS.
Two advantages of a transition to no ports would make the iPhone more impervious to water than it already is. This would also make the device impervious to hacking devices like the GrayKey, which require the iPhone to be plugged into the device.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
