International bank ING announced on Thursday that it would soon be offering Apple Pay support in Spain.
Unfortunately, given that Apple Pay launched in Spain as of 2016, this failed to wow a number of its customers.
In 2016, Banco Santander became the first bank in Spain to support Apple Pay. A large number of other banks in Spain now support Apple Pay. These include BBVA, BancaMarch, CaixaBank, and bunq.
In spite of this, customers of ING, which had been operating in Spain since the 1970s, were unable to use Apple Pay.
ING offered the following tweet on Thursday:
It is fair to say the announcement was not that well received by customers. A lot of sarcasm was thrown ING’s way.
Last Thursday, Australian Apple Pay users could switch between Visa and eftpos. This allows them to avoid credit card fees. U.S. customers can now use Apple Pay to put money into their individual share trading accounts.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
