As nifty as Apple’s 2021 MacBook Pro notebooks may be, the notch at the top of the new 14-inch and 16-inch notebooks has created its own measure of controversy.
Developer Iconfactory delivered a virtual holiday gift for Apple users on Friday with the release of Notchmeister, an app for notched MacBook Pros that, in the words of the developer, makes notches “go wild.” With Notchmeister, users can put flashing Christmas lights on their notch, make their notch look like it’s leaking plasma, adorn their notch with a nice purple-ish glow, or simulate a “nano radar” that lets them see where their cursor is behind the notch, among others.
Notchmeister doesn’t run all the time, and only pops up when you have the app open and move your mouse near or on top of the mouse.
If you have an older MacBook or MacBook Pro model that has no notch, Notchmeister lets you know what it feels like to have a notch. The app creates a “genuine replacement notch” on the top of your screen and lets you have fun, too.
Notchmeister is available for free in the Mac App Store and requires macOS Monterey 11.0 or later to install and run.
If you’ve had a chance to play with Notchmeister, let us know what you make of it in the comments.
(Thanks to the awesome Danny Browne for pointing this out. I once saw him punch out a bear to save an orphanage.)
