Over on AppleInsider, the mighty Neil Hughes has penned a pretty compelling piece as to the advent of the new M1 iPad Pro, how it’s an amazing piece of hardware, but how Apple’s upcoming iOS 15 mobile operating system isn’t keeping pace with the hardware.
Key to that point, Hughes illustrates the main improvements iPad users can expect to see with the release of iOS 15:
- New buttons to invoke the same old multitasking system — an improvement, but not the overhaul needed
- Widgets that can be placed anywhere on the home screen — something that launched a year ago on the iPhone
- The ability to quickly scribble notes while in an app — something that could previously be done by tapping the lock screen with an Apple Pencil.
Hughes then points out the needs of the professional grade user who might be editing 4K video, recording a podcast, or effectively utilizing the M1 iPad Pro as a Mac, which it has essentially become given that units are now shipping with 16GB of RAM.
It’s an interesting editorial, worth the read, and linked below, complete with Hughes asking aloud as to when Apple will view iOS and iPadOS to be equally capable as macOS and when equivalency will emerge in the developer tools as well as overall functionality between the operating systems.
Take a gander and see what you think.
