HomePod mini capable of using 18 watt power adapters following 14.3 software update

This is definitely spiffy.

Following Apple’s release of the HomePod version 14.3 update, the new HomePod mini smart speaker now supports 18 watt power adapters or battery packs.

While the unit ships with a 20 watt power adapter and originally required 20 watts to function, the update reduces this limit to 18 watts, which enables a wider range of adapters and battery packs to work.

The change was discovered by a number of Reddit users who were pairing the updated HomePod mini with various power adapters to see what works. While Apple did not disclose the change in the update notes, if you use a certified 18W USB-C PD power supply or one offering a greater wattage, you’ll be able to run your HomePod mini without issue.

The update doesn’t affect the power of the original HomePod, as that model requires a direct connection to a power outlet via a plug, rather than a power adapter.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
