When was the last time you played chess against a world champion? Yeah, we thought so. In any case, world chess champ, Gary Kasparov, is staging an online chess game in which an ordinary you can easily participate in. Here’s the details from an article “‘Kasparov vs. World’ via the Web” on MSNBC:
Having already played against a supercomputer, world chess champion Garry Kasparov on Monday began doing battle against a new challenger ? actually hundreds of thousands of them. The venue is the Web, and Kasparov is playing a “world” team captained by teen chess prodigies. Kasparov simulated his first move, Pawn to E4, at an event in midtown Manhattan before reporters and chess fans.
“I’M INVITING everyone from all over the world with the slightest interest in chess to play me,” Kasparov said. “I expect this to be a high-quality match and most probably at some point I will have to come up with some kind of novelty move in order to win.”
Microsoft’s MSN Gaming Zone will be the actual battlefield itself and registration is apparently free.
