I was a little scared at first, the last time I installed a hard drive into an external enclosure was during President Clinton’s first term in office. This time around was much easier, thanks to the Transport Pro FireWire and USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive Kit. It runs for US$49 and is a snap to install.
I was a little scared at first- the last time I installed a hard drive into an external enclosure was during President Clinton’s first term in office. Fortunately, this time was much easier, thanks to the Transport Pro FireWire and USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive Kit (Item No.: TPU0GKIT2-M). It sells for US$49 at MCE Technologies and is a snap to install. Within 5 minutes, and the help of a precision screw driver, I had installed a 2.5″ IDE (9.5mm in height or less – used in most portables – call MCE Technologies to make sure) that i pulled out of my G4 Titanium. This puppy was up and running in seconds. It has two (2) firewire ports, does not require AC power, but comes with an AC power to USB cable, a standard firewire cable, and USB2.0 and USB1.1 support. The tight aluminum enclosure has a flashing blue/red light, comes with a protective sleeve and fits in the palm of your hand. It has an on off switch, comes with a 1 year warranty and most importantly, it’s hot swappable.
