Fujifilm working on a firmware update to resolve bug affecting some macOS users

Camera maker Fijifilm has announced that the company is working on an issue that affects some of its X and GFX-series cameras, and can prevent macOS users from being able to access some of the images stored on a memory card.

Per a notice to the company website, users who write more than 4,000 files to a single folder on their SDXC card using their camera are not able to see some of the images on a Mac, when the card is put into an external or internal card reader.

The issue may have dated as early as May 2021, and appears to surface when users reach 4,096 files on the memory card. The bug also occurs if the card has not been properly ejected from a Mac (albeit the same anomaly doesn’t appear to affect Windows users).

Affected models include the GFX 100, GFX 100S, GFX50S II, X-Pro3, X-T4,X-S10, X-E4, X-T30 II, and X100V, regardless of the firmware version. The GFX50S is also affected if it’s running firmware version 4.00 or later, the GFX50R for version 2.00 or later, and X-T3 for version 3.20 or later.

Fujifilm has stated that it is working on a firmware update for the cameras, which will be available as a free update “soon.”

The company has urged users to follow proper ejection procedures, and to limit the number of files generated to a single folder on a memory card installed into a camera. As one photograph could result in three files being generated depending on the camera’s settings, Fujifilm recommends users create a new folder in the “Folder Selection” section of the “Set-up” menu once they approach 1,000 images taken.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
