With the release of Mozilla Firefox 102, Mozilla has incorporated a new tool that strips parameters from URLs that track your internet usage.
Per Bleeping Computer, companies like Facebook, Marketo, and HubSpot use custom URL query parameters to track links on clicks. This data can then be used to offer a more personalized ad experience online. With the new feature, known as “Query Parameters Stripping,” these sites can no longer track which links you click while using the Firefox web browser, provided you’ve enabled the feature.
The article also states that tracking parameters will not be taken away in Private browsing, even after clicking “Strict.”
To enable the feature, use the following steps:
To also enable the feature in Private Mode, enter about:config in the address bar, search for strip, and set the ‘privacy.query_stripping.enabled.pbmode‘ option to true, as shown below.
Should you run across any issues with this new feature, you can put your settings back to “Standard” to revert the settings.
If you’ve had a chance to try Firefox 102, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
