It’ll probably get a fix soon, but in the meantime, the Facebook app for iOS appears to be draining an inordinate amount of battery life as it runs. In a recent interview, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed the company’s awareness of the bug and promised a fix would be in place “soon.”
“We have heard reports of some people experiencing battery issues with our iOS app. We’re looking into this and hope to have a fix in place soon,” the spokesperson said.
A number of Facebook users commented on the issue, one user posting a screenshot of the app draining a dramatic 39 percent battery usage over a six day period, despite having background app refresh set to off.
Current speculation for the battery train runs the gamut, one theory being that the Facebook app is auto-playing videos and their associated sound in the background, thereby draining battery life.
The company itself hasn’t commented on the source of the bug, albeit a fix is probably forthcoming given how frequently they update the app.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
