This could be incredibly cool once it’s out of beta.
Epic Games on Monday announced its new “RealityScan” app, which will allow people to use their iPhone camera to scan objects and turn them into high-fidelity 3D models. The app, which is currently in beta, was developing using properties from Capturing Reality, a photogrammetry company Epic acquired in 2021.
The app requires at least 20 shots of the objects at different angles as well as good lighting and a clean background to create viable 3D objects.

Once captures, the 3D objects can be exported and uploaded to Sketchfab – a popular platform for publishing and discovering 3D, AR, and VR content. These models can be used for a variety of purposes, such as turning them into augmented reality objects or adding them to games with the Unreal Engine.
Users interested in participating in the limited beta can download it via TestFlight. The official release is expected later this year, and Epic Games has stated that an Android version of the app is also in the works.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
