USA Today reported that the iMac does not live up to the “toasting Pentium IIs” myth that Apple created with their G3 processor. PC Magazine reports that Pentium II systems are actually faster than the iMac in most tests. When Apple said that the G3 chip (itself) is up to twice as fast as the Pentium II, most people believed that systems using the G3 processor would be up to twice as fast as Pentium II systems. Wishful thinking, yes. Creative marketing, maybe.
