Code strings hint at a possible 5-port Apple Silicon Mac mini

Following up on rumors that a new Mac mini is only a few weeks away, a code string reported by MacRumors contributor references an “Apple silicon Mac mini (5 Port),” which seems to indicate such a Mac is in the company’s plans.

The code string appears to have surfaced from some macOS Sequoia code, wherein Apple officially released iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, visionOS 2, and tvOS 11 on Monday.

Per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will release Macs with the M4 chip “in the coming weeks.” As Gurman reported back in April, Apple will update the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini. Gurman has previously reported that the Mac mini will feature a new, smaller design that makes it about the size of the Apple TV and that it will have five USB-C ports, three on the back and two on the front.

The current Mac mini includes either two or four Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports on the back of the case. Apple also includes a pair of USB-A ports, which Gurman claims Apple will drop on the new model.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
