Accessory maker Belkin has issued a recall for its Boost Charge Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition, which is sold in Apple retail stores as well as online through Apple and Belkin. The unit is being called due to fire and shock hazards, and has been cited by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
A manufacturing defect with the power supply unit can cause the unit to overheat and malfunction, thereby leading to a fire safety risk. Belkin has stated that no injuries or property damage have been reported, and that no other wireless chargers have been affected by the recall.
Belkin has offered a full refund to all customers who’ve purchased the charger, and recommends customers stop using the charger immediately as well as contact the company for further instructions.
The charger was sold by Apple and Belkin from July 2020 through October 2020, and retailed for $80. It incorporates a removable 10,000mAh power bank that can be charged at the same time as an iPhone.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
