This could be interesting.
Apple has filed new listings for its Apple Silicon Mac lineup in a Bluetooth product database, leaving a mystery “personal computer” listing that was filed in October 2020.
The new filings consist of the MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the Mac mini with M1 processors. These appear to be the Apple Silicon M1 Macs that were announced in November.
The three units were added to the Bluetooth SIG database on February 10, 2021, as expected.
Still, the units appear next to an unspecified device with the placeholder product name of “B2002.” Apple filed for that listing back in October 2020. The unit has been placed under the “personal computer” category, which Apple uses for Mac and iPad devices.
Even so, it appears that the B2002 unit doesn’t refer to any currently existing Mac or iPad product, and when referenced against other Mac products listed in the SIG database, is described as a “controller subsystem + host + profile.” As such, it doesn’t contain a model number like the other three Macs.
While it’s possible that the B2002 listing could refer to the M1 processor itself, it could also be a complete personal computer product. Apple has filed other chips with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group in the past, including H-series chips for its AirPods and W-series chips for the Apple Watch.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
