AppleCare+ for HomePod priced at $39, covers two accidental damage incidents

If you’re looking to snag AppleCare+ for your new HomePod, it’ll run you $39.

The extended warranty and accidental damage repair program offers two out-of-warranty repairs like accidental damage from a drop.

Without AppleCare+, the repair will run $279.

The checkout process for a HomePod has said since the pre-order process that AppleCare+ coverage extending the warranty to two years, granting a longer customer support window, and providing for reduced-cost out-of-warranty repairs would cost $39. However, a new support document published on Friday breaks down the HomePod repair process, as well as costs associated with the repair.

While there are no varying costs for repairs associated with the HomePod (as with a screen or battery replacement for a MacBook or an iPhone), out-of-warranty damage for a HomePod, such as a drop or exposure to water, will run the user $279.

The AppleCare+ service also grants users an express replacement service, where Apple will ship a replacement HomePod to the user in advance of return of the non-functional one. Users must return the original HomePod within 10 days to avoid additional charges up to and including the cost of a new HomePod.

For HomePod repairs, Apple offers shipment of the device to a service center, as it does for iOS devices and the Mac. Users requiring shipment, rather than visiting a local Apple Store, must pay $19.99 for the service, in addition to any fee associated with the repair.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
