Apple won’t hold “AirTags/updated iPad” media event on March 16 after rumors debunked

You may have to wait a little longer for an Apple hardware event regarding AirTags and an updated iPad Pro.

Per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, rumors of a special Apple hardware media event supposedly scheduled for March 16 have been pushed back, in spite of what the rumor mill was circulating.

Last week, Twitter accounts “LeaksApplePro” and “FrontTron” claimed Apple was planning to release a new iPad Pro models, iPad mini and “AirTags” tracking hardware at a keynote event on March 16. South Korean publication Economic Daily News subsequently picked up and ran with the uncorroborated gossip in a report that has since been cited by numerous online outlets.

On Friday, Gurman, whose connections are considered incredibly solid, confirmed via Twitter that there will be no Apple event on March 16. While Gurman didn’t say when the company intends to hold its routine spring event, he nixed the idea of an AirTags release on March 16.

Apple is anticipated to introduce new iPad hardware this spring in lockstep with its annual release cycle. Multiple reports point to an announcement sometime in March, though that date could be pushed back due to lingering development and supply chain delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
