Apple updates guidelines, instructs users to remove bands, other accessories before sending Apple Watch units along for repairs

If you’re shipping your Apple Watch off to Apple for repairs and have your favorite band attached to it, you need to remove it before it hits the store.

A new Apple support document is now explicitly asking customers to remove their Apple Watch bands before turning them in, and now warns that “Your Apple Watch band and any other accessories that you send won’t be returned, so please remove them before sending your Apple Watch in for service,” according to the updated guidelines.

The instructions also note that Link Bracelet band owners need to “remember to separate the link before you remove the band.” In the past, Apple has been known to return accessories, bundled together, when practical. Apple Watch bands would be be reattached, but they would be sent back to the user. It’s possible that practice has now become too time-consuming.

So, be aware of what to expect prior to shooting your Apple Watch off in the mail.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
