Apple thought to be developing up to nine new Mac models with M1, M2 chipsets

A series of developer logs has revealed that Apple is prepping at least nine new Mac models using the currently-unannounced M2 chipset. It’s thought that Apple will release the new Macs either this year or throughout 2023.

According to Bloomberg, the developer logs, which are meant for internal use only, have indicated testing of MacBook Air, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro. In addition, the log indicated testing of several Mac models running on an advanced version of the M1 chips.

The report hinted at a long-rumored MacBook Air featuring an M2 chip. The chip is said to feature an eight-core CPU along with a 10-core GPU, and would mark a significant improvement to the current M1 MacBook Air released in 2020 with either seven- or eight-core GPUs.

The logs also indicated a new Mac mini with an M2 chip. There may also be a Mac mini running the M2 Pro chip. Previous rumors also suggested that Apple would launch a new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro chips.

Additionally, the logs also indicate testing on both 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro notebooks. Both models of MacBook Pro in testing feature the M2 Pro chip and M2 Max chip. In terms of configuration, the Max chip featured 12 CPU cores and 38 GPU cores. The new MacBook Pro tested featured 64GB of RAM.

On the more economical side of things, Apple is said to be testing an updated Mac mini with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

Finally, Apple is also said to be testing an update Mac Pro with an M1 Ultra chipset. No other details were available as to the new Mac Pro model.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
