A week after releasing updated firmware for the AirPods Pro earbuds, Apple has released the same firmware for the second-generation AirPods, bringing them to the new 2D15 firmware.
Apple didn’t release the exact changes offered by the firmware, but it’s thought that since the second-generation AirPods don’t feature Active Noise Cancellation, the firmware fixes the bug that caused some customers who were sent a replacement AirPod with unreleased firmware to be unable to use them, allowing them to once again be paired with existing AirPods.
Users can check their AirPods firmware version via the following steps:
- Make sure the AirPods are connected to your iOS device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Tap AirPods.
- Look at the number next to “Firmware Version.”
While Apple has yet to provide explicit instructions as ago how to initiate a firmware update, activating the AirPods with audio, putting them in their case, and connecting them to a power source seems to be the best way to force the update.
If you’ve had a chance to try the new firmware update, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
