Apple releases updated iPod touch, adds improved hardware to device

ipodtouch2015

Apple may not have done much with its iPod shuffle and nano models outside of changing the color offerings, but it beefed up the iPod touch in a big way this week.

The iPod touch’s camera is now on par with the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2, going from 5 megapixels in the last generation to 8 in the new version. Apple also incorporated an iPhone M8 motion coprocessor for better activity-tracking and a new 64-bit A8 chip to make the unit that much faster. A new 1136 x 640 resolution Retina display rounds things out and makes the device that much more robust.

The new version of the iPod touch, which arrives with iOS 8.4 and access to Apple Music, now arrives in a 128GB model available for US$399. A 16GB touch will run you $199, a 32GB for $249, and a 64GB for $299. All models are available in-store today, with Apple throwing in two-day shipping for free if you’d rather buy online.

Apple’s product page for the updated iPod touch is available here and you can conveniently snag the unit off Amazon here if you can’t find the unit in your local Apple Store location today.

If you’ve gotten your mitts on the updated iPod touch and have any feedback to offer about it, let us know in the comments.
