Following two months of testing, Apple has released macOS Monterey 12.3, complete with the following fixes, changes, and new features:
Universal Control: This allows a keyboard, mouse, and trackpad connected to a Mac to be used by a nearby iPad. Universal Control requires all devices to be running iPadOS 15.4 and macOS Monterey 12.3 or later on respective hardware to work. All devices also need to have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff turned on, and to be either placed within 30 feet of each other, or connected via USB.
Other Features and Improvements:
• Matching changes in iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4, 37 new emoji are included as part of Unicode 14.0.
• Depreciation of kernel extensions used by Microsoft OneDrive and Dropbox.
• Fixes a Bluetooth battery drain issue from macOS 12.2.
As usual, the macOS Monterey 12.3 update can be located via the Software Update feature within System Preferences.

The 12.3 update totally bricked my 16″ MacBook Pro Max. It’s now in for a new motherboard, Touch ID and I/O board, just one week after it went down due to late night water (coke) damage. They had the parts in stock, and hopefully I’ll get it back quicker than the 5 to 7 days that they stated at the Apple store (Eaton Centre, Toronto.)
Advising clients to wait on this one. It’s the first time in 37 years I have had a Mac bricked by an update.
