Apple releases macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 update, focuses on fix for MacBooks with “non-compliant” USB-C hubs

Apple on Thursday released macOS Big Sur 11.2.2, its latest update to its macOS Big Sur operating system.

The update focuses on compatibility with 2019 or later MacBook Pro and 2020 or later MacBook Air models, and works to precent damage that could occur when using certain USB-C accessories, as detailed in the following release notes:

macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 prevents MacBook Pro (2019 or later) and MacBook Air (2020 or later) models from incurring damage when they are connected to certain third-party, non-compliant powered USB-C hubs and docks.

Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t provide additional information about this bug, so it’s unclear whether some Mac users have experienced “damage” when using third-party USB-C hubs and docks.

As always, you can snag the update by navigating to System Preferences > Software Update. The update is available to all macOS Big Sur users and is not limited solely to the affected machines.

If you’ve had a chance to try the macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 update and have any feedback to offer, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
