For every major update, there’s generally a quick follow up.
For the latest versions of macOS and iOS, this is no exception.
Apple on Monday released macOS 11.5.1 Big Sur as well as iOS 14.7.1 and iPadOS 14.7.1, complete with bug fixes and security updates.
The updates add the following security patches:
- Impact: An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
- Description: A memory corruption issue was addressed with improved memory handling.
- CVE-2021-30807: an anonymous researcher
The update for iOS and iPadOS fixes a bug with Apple Watch unlock and is available in Settings > General > Software Update. Meanwhile, the macOS update fixes a security issue with IOMobileFrameBuffer:
As usual, you can locate, download, and install the macOS update via the usual method of going into the Software Update program in the System Preferences and checking for the update from there.
If you’re tried either of these updates, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
