Apple opens up application portal for Vision Pro developer kits

If you want to be an Apple Vision Pro developer and create apps for the forthcoming headset, you can now apply through Apple to get underway.

Following a month of speculation, Apple has opened its web portal to be able to apply for a developer kit for the Apple Vision Pro headset.

Developers must submit what Apple calls “a brief application” to be considered for a Vision Pro developer kit. Developers applying need to be an Account Holder in the Apple Developer Program and will be required to provide details about the team’s development skills and existing apps.

Not every applicant will be guaranteed a headset. Apple has stated that it will review applications and priority will be given to applicants creating an app that takes advantage of visionOS features and capabilities.

The device is also essentially loaned to the developer for a period of time. It’s presently unclear what the loan terms are, what collateral may need to be given to Apple — or how much must be put down in advance.

Apple has stated that it will also provide compatibility evaluations for apps and games, in which Apple will supply reports on how apps appear and behave within visionOS. There will also be developer labs in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo, where developers can get hands-on time and experience their apps running on Apple Vision Pro.

The company has also launched a “work with Apple” website that details what types of help will be provided throughout the process.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
